Over the past year PICNIC has engaged with a large number of ambitious organisations ready to test new activities, launch pilots and grow enterprises that enhance parks and greenspaces in socially impactful ways for the benefit of local communities. Investment levels in parks and greenspaces continues to be drastically below the levels needed to protect and maintain such important assets for communities and the environment; however, we have made real progress centralising understanding of how charitable organisations and local communities can be involved as part of the solution.
As a result of this extensive learning and in consultation with our partners Access, Big Society Capital, the National Lottery Community Fund and the National Trust, we have decided it is necessary to redesign the fund in a way that supports capacity building in the parks sector and as such, we have taken the very difficult decision to close the PICNIC fund until later this year.
We thank our Access, Big Society Capital, the National Lottery Community Fund and the National Trust for their support to date, sector partners and all the social impactful organisations with whom we have engaged.
