Richard Speak

Founder Director, Environmental Finance

Rich conceived and founded Environmental Finance. Rich worked for over ten years in cross border mergers and acquisitions, where amongst other things he completed a number of transactions in large scale European solar.  In 2012, Rich set up two social enterprises in grass roots sport, and redirected his career into Social Investment, linking financial returns with improving social outcomes, and joined the UK’s leading social advisory firm Social Finance in 2013. As a Director at Social Finance, Rich raised the first ever £10m Social Solar Bond aimed at reducing fuel poverty in the UK using solar technology, as well as completing over 15 other transactions involving over £35m of social investment. Rich is a Chartered Accountant and holds a LLB (Hons) in law, and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Securities and Investments. Rich is passionate about conservation and is a Fellow of the Zoological Society of London.

Jamie Mansfield

Managing Director, Environmental Finance

Jamie co-founded Environmental Finance with Rich, and leads EF’s advisory work with the RSPB and WWF on natural capital financing. He co-designed and manages a £50m investment programme that acquires solar assets to transition them into community ownership. He has extensive experience across M&A, project financing and debt underwriting of renewable energy and natural asset projects. Jamie has structured over £150m of long-term debt and equity investments with institutional investors. He has a first class Masters of Engineering from Exeter University. Outside of work he is keen alpine climber and is currently ranked joint 34th in the World Stone Skimming Championships.

André Sarvarian

Associate Director, Environmental Finance

André’s background is in technology and business services, where he spent the early part of his career as a strategy consultant advising TMT and financial services clients before transitioning into venture capital where he was involved in backing a number of early stage technology investments. Before joining the team, Andre spent over four years as a corporate finance advisor, working across a range of transactions involving financing and M&A. André holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from Kings College London and In the Investment Management Certificate from the CFA Society of the UK alongside professional qualifications from CIMA and ICAEW. He is passionate about new technologies and their impact on sustainability and conservation of the natural environment.

Nikki Gaddo

Investment Manager, PICNIC

Nikki is responsible for sourcing and managing investments for the PICNIC fund. Nikki has extensive experience in investment banking; she began her career at National Australia Bank working on “Kangaroo” bonds for EMEA clients and EMTN transactions. She subsequently moved to JPMorgan where she spent over ten years in the Debt Capital Markets investment banking team. Nikki’s initial focus was to originate debt related transactions for UK and Irish banks; however, following the financial crisis, Nikki became a specialist in complex liability management transactions for large corporates and financials, eventually heading the EMEA liability management team. Nikki holds a first class degree in Economics from Durham University. In her spare time, Nikki is passionate about art and her local community. Nikki is the founder and chair of the Friends of Graham Street Park, a local park-based community charity.

Hannah Barkan

Associate, Environmental Finance & PICNIC

Prior to joining Environmental Finance, Hannah worked as a Fund Management Analyst at Big Issue Invest (BII), a social impact investor, designing and delivering Social Impact Bonds for social enterprises and local authorities across the UK. While at BII, Hannah also made debt and equity investments into social enterprises in the health and wellbeing, financial inclusion and renewable energy sectors. At the start of her career, Hannah spent two years in the Middle East working with local Palestinian community organisations and farmers who were looking for sustainable business solutions and grant funding. Hannah holds a BA in International Relations from Loughborough University and a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law school. Hannah enjoys trail running and bikepacking and is always looking for new places to explore by bike.
